Goodyear Unveils New Slick Tyre Specification for LMP2 Teams at Le Castellet
Le Castellet, France – Goodyear has introduced a new slick tyre specification for the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) LMP2 teams during the highly anticipated 4 Hours of Le Castellet this weekend. This new specification enhances tyre performance and durability, designed to withstand the rigors of endurance racing, including the upcoming Le Mans 24 Hours.
João Coelho, Goodyear’s Testing & Track Support Manager, stated, “This new specification is an evolution of our existing slick LMP2 compound.” Extensive collaboration with various LMP2 teams, incorporating both on-track testing and simulation work, has allowed Goodyear to fine-tune the tyre construction. Coelho emphasized that the input from these teams has been crucial in ensuring optimal performance and reliability suited for long-distance races.
The new tyre will be utilized throughout the remainder of the 2025 campaign and aims to provide consistent drivability for a diverse driver lineup, ranging from Platinum to Bronze-rated competitors. Coelho noted the importance of the tyre being “forgiving” to accommodate varying driving styles, a focus that parallels Goodyear’s development of its LMGT3 products.
Additionally, teams in the ELMS LMGT3 category will continue to employ Goodyear’s latest ‘Eagle Medium’ slick compound, ensuring competitiveness across multiple categories.
This introduction comes amid a regulatory update in LMP2, preparing for the next generation of cars expected to debut in 2028, solidifying Goodyear’s commitment to developing innovative solutions for endurance racing.
