Colin Queen: A Rookie’s Remarkable Journey in Lamborghini Super Trofeo
Colin Queen, a 20-year-old rookie in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series, is making history as the only active professional racing driver living with a congenital heart defect (CHD). Despite enduring three open-heart surgeries in his infancy, Queen has evolved into a formidable athlete and competitor, overcoming significant physical challenges to excel in motorsports.
Queen’s journey began in karting, where he showcased his talents both in the U.S. and Europe. His accomplishments in the BRSCC Formula Ford Championship included a second-place finish and multiple trophies, such as the David Leslie Trophy and Silverstone’s Jim Walsh Trophy. He was awarded a ₤20,000 scholarship to compete in the 2023 MSVR GB4 Series, where he finished fourth overall with Fortec Motorsports.
Transitioning to sports car racing has posed new challenges. "The transition from single-seaters has been different," Queen remarked, noting the need to adapt to the "heavy machinery" of sports cars compared to the more agile format of open-wheel racing.
Driving for ANSA Motorsports, Queen is excited about the team environment. “They’ve been phenomenal to me… it feels almost like family,” he stated. He acknowledged the stiff competition in the Super Trofeo series, particularly from established teams like Wayne Taylor Racing.
Queen’s recent performances include two top-five finishes in his opening weekend at Sebring, and he aims to capitalize on that momentum at Laguna Seca. “I believe sports cars provide the best pathway for a career in racing,” he explained, eyeing a future in GT3 racing.
Beyond the track, Queen serves as an ambassador for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the British Heart Foundation, using his platform to raise awareness and funds for CHD research. He remarked, “Having this platform is incredible to promote that.”
As Queen navigates his inaugural season in sports car racing, his determination and work ethic embody a mantra that has fueled his ascent: “Anything is possible, as long as you put your mind to it and work your absolute ass off.”
