Alex Quinn Set to Make Hypercar Debut at 6 Hours of Barcelona

This weekend, Alex Quinn will embark on a pivotal new chapter in his career, making his Hypercar debut in the #93 Peugeot TotalEnergies 9X8 at the 6 Hours of Barcelona. The 25-year-old Briton’s rise in motorsports has gained significant momentum in 2026, highlighted by class victories at prestigious events, including the 24 Hours of Daytona, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Petit Le Mans, along with championships in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and Michelin Endurance Cup.

Quinn’s path to this point has been anything but straightforward. His career faced serious setbacks four years ago but took a turn with an opportunity at PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports in the 2023 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. A strong performance in LMP2 earned him recognition, leading to a development driver contract with Peugeot which has now transitioned into a full-time race driver role beginning in 2027, accelerated by Stoffel Vandoorne’s departure from Stellantis.

“I’ve actually known for quite a long time, so it’s been hard keeping it in,” Quinn stated regarding his new position. “We haven’t even started yet, and it’s a big challenge. I want to do a good job.”

Quinn acknowledges the significance of his current opportunity, emphasizing the collaborative potential with Peugeot in light of their evolving Hypercar program. “I want to build and have a bright future for both of us together as a team,” he remarked.

His successful 2023 season ended with podium finishes at Watkins Glen and Petit Le Mans, which also led to his upgrade to Gold status by the FIA. Despite the challenges that come with this new classification, Quinn has not only thrived but has also expressed gratitude towards key figures like Ben Keating, who instrumental in his return to racing after a hiatus.

“I started [LMP2 racing] in IMSA thanks to Ben Keating,” Quinn said. “I wouldn’t have got this latest Peugeot deal without him.”

Quinn’s introduction to the Peugeot team has involved extensive simulator work, helping him adapt to the intricacies of the Hypercar’s systems. He has yet to compete at any races this season, focusing instead on refining his skills through testing as the team prepares for upcoming events.

“It’s going to be a learning curve for sure,” Quinn acknowledged, “especially with the systems and quirks of setup. I’ll be learning throughout every race and practice session.”

As he readies for his debut, Quinn remains open to competing in a parallel LMP2 program. “I hope to be racing an LMP2 again,” he said. Quinn will co-drive the #93 Peugeot alongside Nick Cassidy and Paul Di Resta, aiming to make a strong impression in the Hypercar category.

Quinn’s journey reflects resilience and determination as he transitions into a critical phase of his career, and the motorsports community will be watching closely as he takes the next steps in his racing trajectory.
