Porsche Teases Upcoming Road Version of 963 LMDH Hypercar Ahead of 50th Anniversary of Historic 917 Road Entry
Porsche has unveiled a teaser for its highly anticipated roadgoing variant of the 963 LMDH hypercar, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 917’s inaugural public road drive. The official reveal is set for June.
On April 28, 1973, a one-off version of the Porsche 917, driven by Italian businessman Gregorio Rossi di Montelera, famously embarked on a public journey from Weissach to Paris. This historic event marked a significant moment in motorsport history, underscoring Porsche’s commitment to innovation and performance.
The vehicle in question, 917 chassis 30, was a pioneer in endurance racing during the early 1970s. It featured essential modifications to comply with regulations and meet the owner’s unique preferences, including basic exhaust mufflers, enhanced mirrors, and comprehensive safety features like spare wheels. The interior showcased luxury elements such as tan leather seats sourced from Hermes and suede accents throughout.
Currently owned by Francois Perrodo, the restored 917 continues to be utilized on the roads of southern France, maintaining its original aesthetics while benefiting from careful renovations that prepare it for continued enjoyment.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming 963 LMDH debut, Porsche’s legacy of performance and design remains a focal point within the motorsport community. Further details on the new hypercar are expected in the coming weeks, as enthusiasts eagerly await its full unveiling.
