Turner Motorsport Claims First GS Class Win in Nearly Two Years at Mid-Ohio
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course— Turner Motorsport showcased its depth in driver development with a notable victory in the Grand Sport (GS) class during the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. Francis Selldorff, a rising star in the team, co-drove the #95 BMW M4 GT4 EVO alongside Dillon Machavern, securing their first win in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 4 Hours of Mid-Ohio. This marks Turner’s 30th GS class win in the series, a significant achievement after a near two-year hiatus since their last victory in June 2023.
Machavern qualified the #95 in third position before transitioning to Selldorff for the final stint. Competing against seasoned drivers, including IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge champions Jeff Westphal and Jan Heylen, Selldorff demonstrated remarkable composure, particularly during the race’s seven full-course cautions. Despite late challenges, he maintained control and crossed the finish line just 0.751 seconds ahead of Daniel Morad in the Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG.
“The key today was I got the car in the front,” said Selldorff. “I just tried to nail the restart each time, get a little bit of a gap and then just get good exits everywhere I could.”
Turner Motorsport owner Will Turner expressed his confidence in Selldorff’s development, noting, “We knew when we first tested him that he had some natural talent… he’s getting better and better.”
The podium was rounded out by Heylen and co-driver Luca Mars in the #28 RS1 Porsche, marking their fourth consecutive top-three finish. Completing the top five were the rebuilt #44 Ibiza Farm Motorsports McLaren Artura GT4 and the #27 Auto Technic BMW.
In the Touring Car (TCR) class, the Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb Agajanian team extended its winning streak to four, with Mason Filippi and Harry Gottsacker dominating the event in their #98 Hyundai Elantra N TCR. They led 111 of 149 laps, achieving their second win of the season and the team’s 29th overall.
With this momentum, the Michelin Pilot Challenge will continue at Watkins Glen International from June 19-21 for Round 5 of the season.
