Peugeot TotalEnergies Reannounces Stoffel Vandoorne for 2026 Hypercar Season
Stoffel Vandoorne will return to Peugeot TotalEnergies’ Hypercar line-up for the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), following the decision of Jean-Éric Vergne to transition to a development role. This announcement comes ahead of the 2025 season finale at the 8 Hours of Bahrain.
Vandoorne, who joined Peugeot in 2023, made his debut at the 6 Hours of Fuji, stepping in for the injured Nico Müller. Over the 2024 season, his notable achievement was securing a podium at the Lone Star Le Mans. His previous contract expired after Fuji, and he was substituted for this weekend’s race by Théo Pourchaire.
In a recent social media update, Peugeot confirmed the agreement for Vandoorne’s return, stating, “Stoffel is back and JEV will focus on development for the 2026 season.”
This reappointment provides Vandoorne with a competitive program, supplementing his earlier position as a reserve driver for Jaguar TCS Racing in Formula E. Vergne, who has raced for Peugeot since its WEC debut in 2022, will participate in the FIA Formula E championship with Citroën while working on Stellantis Motorsport’s upcoming fourth-generation powertrain. He leaves behind a legacy of three podium finishes with Peugeot, including the brand’s inaugural WEC podium at Monza in 2023.
Peugeot is realigning its driver roster for 2026, with Nick Cassidy and Pourchaire confirmed as additions while Mikkel Jensen departs. The 2025 FIA WEC season concludes this weekend in Bahrain.
