Paul Miller Racing Triumphs at Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen
Watkins Glen, NY – In a stunning show of resilience, Paul Miller Racing’s young duo, Dan Harper and Max Hesse, clinched their maiden IMSA victories in the GTD PRO category at the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen, driving the No. 48 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Their triumph came after overcoming a 60-second penalty for a pit lane infraction early in the race.
Harper’s penalty, incurred for running a red light during a full-course yellow, initially seemed to jeopardize their race strategy. However, thanks to effective teamwork and multiple safety cars, they rebounded, regaining the lead with just two hours remaining. "At that point, I sort of thought I had blew it," Harper noted. "Max did a great job to get us back up the order, and we were lucky with the safety cars."
Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims finished second in the No. 3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R, allowing them to seize a 62-point lead in the GTD PRO standings. The No. 77 AO Racing Porsche, driven by Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler, faltered, finishing sixth after sustaining damage in the final hour.
The race was eventful as "Rexy" led during the mixed-weather opening phase but ultimately finished behind Harper and Hesse. The podium was rounded out by the No. 65 Ford Mustang GT3 and the No. 81 DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3.
In the GTD category, the No. 27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage achieved a dramatic last-lap victory after the leading No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus ran out of fuel. Driver Zacharie Robichon narrowly avoided disaster in the last moments, expressing his relief at not being involved in a collision.
The No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 faced significant setbacks due to damage, reducing their championship lead, while the No. 12 Lexus struggled, finishing 11th after Jack Hawksworth ran out of fuel late in the race. The second and third positions in GTD went to the Inception Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 and the Korthoff Competition Motors Mercedes-AMG GT3, respectively.
The IMSA GTP class will take a brief hiatus as LMP2 and GT cars head to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the Chevrolet Grand Prix on July 13th.
