Chase Sexton Claims Victory Over Jett Lawrence at Washougal
Washougal, WA – In a pivotal round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Chase Sexton delivered a decisive performance to best Jett Lawrence, marking the second time this season he has defeated the reigning champion. The race at Washougal featured a battle between the two riders, with Sexton taking the overall victory with a 1-2 finish, while Lawrence secured a 3-1 result.
Sexton’s first-moto triumph showcased his speed and control, setting the tone for the day. "I knew coming in I had to focus on my starts and maintain consistent laps," Sexton stated. His ability to stay ahead, coupled with Lawrence’s struggles early in the first moto, paved the way for Sexton’s success.
Lawrence acknowledged the challenge, admitting, “This is my worst track of the circuit… I just had to try and rely on my starts.” He encountered difficulties in the first moto, where a slip early on hindered his chances for a better finish. Despite rebounding in the second moto for a win, it was not enough to secure the overall.
While Lawrence has dominated the series with seven overall wins in eight rounds, his recent performances suggest a slight decline in consistency, raising concerns about increased crash frequency. “You can’t always win everything, and winning always comes to an end at some stage,” he reflected after the race.
Notably, Lawrence has now recorded only two non-win finishes in his 450 Pro Motocross career, having won 22 of the 24 races he has entered in this class. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how he adapts to the competition as Sexton continues to mount pressure in the championship standings.
