Inception Racing to Switch to Chevrolet for 2027 IMSA Season
Inception Racing has confirmed its transition to Chevrolet, announcing plans to field the Corvette Z06 GT3.R Evo in the 2027 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This marks the team’s fifth full season in IMSA, further solidifying its partnership with British operating partner Optimum Motorsport.
The #70 Chevrolet Corvette will be driven by Brendan Iribe and Frederik Schandorff for the full season, with Ollie Millroy joining for the five-race Michelin Endurance Cup. This driver lineup has been a cornerstone of Inception Racing since its debut in the series.
Bas Leinders, Sporting Director of Inception Racing, emphasized the excitement surrounding this partnership: “We are extremely excited to join the Corvette family… We are looking forward to this new chapter and are determined to contribute to Corvette’s continued success on track.” Andrea Hidalgo, Corvette Racing Programme Manager, added, “Inception is one of the leading GTD teams… This addition will strengthen both teams and the broader Corvette Racing programme in 2027.”
Historically, Inception Racing has switched manufacturers multiple times since its IMSA debut in 2021, initially fielding the McLaren 720S GT3 before transitioning to a Ferrari 296 GT3. Notably, the team secured its first IMSA GTD victory with Ferrari at the 2025 Indianapolis race.
In the 2023 standings, Iribe finished sixth, a performance that garnered him the prestigious Bob Akin Award and an invitation to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “He continues to make good progress… to combine racing at this level with his business is amazing,” Leinders stated.
Millroy, who is expected to return in 2027 following injuries from an accident in the China GT Championship, remains a vital member of the team. Leinders highlighted Millroy’s significance to Inception Racing’s foundation and ongoing success.
The addition of Inception Racing will ensure at least two Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs on the grid next season in the GTD category, further enhancing competitive dynamics within the series.
