Tom Blomqvist Secures Pole Position for IMSA Battle on the Bricks
Indianapolis, IN – Tom Blomqvist demonstrated significant improvement in his motorsport career, clinching the pole position for Sunday’s TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This achievement marks a pivotal moment for Blomqvist, coming nearly 18 months after a tumultuous departure from IndyCar racing following a disastrous outing at the 2024 Indianapolis 500.
Driving the blue and white No. 60 Acura ARX-06 for Meyer Shank Racing, Blomqvist’s performance in qualifying reflects the team’s technical gains. This pole marks their fourth consecutive IMSA GTP pole position, extending their recent success from Detroit to Indianapolis.
Reflecting on his past at the Brickyard, Blomqvist stated, “Last time I was here was not the most enjoyable day.” He recalled triggering a multi-car crash during the Indy 500 which led to his removal from the Meyer Shank Racing lineup.
Despite these setbacks, Blomqvist expressed confidence in the current setup of the Acura ARX-06, emphasizing the importance of understanding and evolving the car’s performance: “We’ve made good gains for that car—just further understanding and pushing it more to its limits.”
Blomqvist acknowledged upcoming challenges for the six-hour race, which may involve cooler weather and rain. Historically, the Acura has struggled at Indianapolis in previous years, making the team’s evolving strategies crucial. He added, “The car was great from the start, and I managed to eke that lap out, and it was enough.”
As the race looms, Blomqvist’s resurgence promises to enhance competitive dynamics, placing him and co-driver Colin Braun in a strong position to contend for victory.
