Circuit of The Americas, Austin, TX – Race Report
In a thrilling opening to the TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School season, Gyumin Kim captured his first victory in a rain-affected Race 1 at Circuit of The Americas (COTA). Despite a brief weather delay, the 25-minute sprint showcased intense competition as drivers navigated challenging conditions.
Starting from pole position, Kim, in the No. 74 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO, executed a flawless launch into Turn 1. He quickly established dominance, not only leading the race but also recording the fastest lap, ultimately crossing the finish line with a comfortable margin.
Behind him, a fierce battle ensued for the remaining podium spots. Jeff Ricca, also in a Hyundai Elantra N1, and Michael Garcia in the No. 07 Skip Barber Racing Acura Integra Type S, engaged in a noteworthy duel. Ricca held off early challenges from Garcia, while PJ Groenke maneuvered into third. However, Garcia fought back, reclaiming the position after a series of aggressive exchanges.
Jonathan Neudorf earned “Hard Charger” honors, advancing three positions to finish strong in the No. 4 JMF Motorsports Toyota GR Corolla TC.
Reflecting on his victory, Kim stated, “I practiced on the simulator back in Korea to prepare for this race at COTA. I’m thankful to Hyundai for this opportunity, and to my crew at Genracer and Ricca Autosport—they build fantastic race cars.”
Looking ahead, Kim will start from pole again for Race 2 on Saturday at 10:40 AM CT.
