Verstappen Triumphs in Las Vegas, Closes Title Gap to McLaren
LAS VEGAS, NV – Max Verstappen celebrated a commanding victory in the Las Vegas Grand Prix, showcasing Red Bull’s resurgence in the 2025 Formula 1 season. With this triumph, Verstappen narrowed the championship gap to Lando Norris to just 24 points after the disqualification of both McLarens for excessive plank wear.
Verstappen’s performance on Saturday night marked a pivotal moment, as he initially appeared 42 points behind Norris, the championship leader. Reflecting on the season’s challenges, Verstappen expressed pride in the team’s ability to adapt and remain competitive.
“I think that’s the better approach,” Verstappen stated. “It’s still a big gap, but we always try to maximize everything we’ve got. This weekend was about securing first place, and we’ll continue to aim for wins in the upcoming races. At the end of Abu Dhabi, we’ll see where we end up.”
This victory represents a significant turnaround for Red Bull, particularly after Verstappen was 104 points behind champion Oscar Piastri seven races ago. His resurgence can largely be attributed to the team’s consistent podium finishes, even during less competitive weekends.
“We have been consistently on the podium,” he noted. “There were times when we weren’t in contention for the win. However, from the middle of 2024 to the middle of 2025, we were more often off the podium than not. Now, we’re consistently fighting for second or third, which is a positive step forward.”
Verstappen aims to build on this momentum, indicating that the lessons learned this season will be invaluable for future challenges. “We learned a lot, and that’s also very valuable for the upcoming years. We’ll try to improve even more and come back stronger next year to put up a fight from the start,” he concluded.
With the next race in Qatar on the horizon, Verstappen’s sights remain firmly set on closing the championship gap further as the season approaches its climax.
