Ferrari Revives Iconic White Overalls in Exclusive PUMA Collection
Ferrari has unveiled a limited-edition collection of all-white race suits, marking a return to a historically significant design. The initiative coincides with advancements from PUMA, and aims to blend motorsport heritage with contemporary fashion.
Historical Context
Ferrari’s journey with white overalls began in 1979, when Jody Scheckter donned a white-and-blue suit for his debut. He became the team’s first white-overall winner, achieving victories in Belgium and Monaco. Following Scheckter, Gilles Villeneuve adopted all-white attire, making headlines in France with the debut of the fireproof Simpson Nomex suits. This collaboration propelled Ferrari to a World Constructors’ Championship title by season’s end.
The white overalls were used through the early 1980s, with drivers such as Didier Pironi and Patrick Tambay wearing them. Ferrari transitioned back to red in 1983, maintaining that signature color until Michael Schumacher’s testing in 1995, where he famously wore unbranded white overalls.
In a modern twist, Charles Leclerc recently sported a specially designed white suit paired with red accents in the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, symbolizing the Monegasque flag.
The New PUMA Collection
PUMA’s latest iteration includes the all-white Miami Limited Edition replica race suit, designed as part of the 2025 Scuderia Ferrari HP F1 car’s livery. Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will represent this collection during races, highlighting a blend of motorsport and football-inspired aesthetics. PUMA stated, “It draws inspiration from both the clean accent color of our new car livery and the heritage of football away kits.”
The exclusive collection is limited in availability, featuring a white race suit, gloves, and Speedcat Pro footwear aligned with the Miami GP car livery. Fans can acquire these items at selected PUMA and Ferrari outlets as well as online.
As Ferrari continues to innovate while paying homage to its rich history, this latest offering reinforces its commitment to merging the worlds of motorsport and lifestyle fashion.
