Leclerc Disappointed with Sixth-Place Finish in Imola GP
Imola, Italy – Charles Leclerc expressed frustration with his performance at the F1 Imola Grand Prix, where he secured a sixth-place finish. After being eliminated in Q2 during qualifying, Leclerc managed to recover some points but remains significantly off the pace in the championship standings, currently trailing leader Oscar Piastri by 85 points.
Leclerc emphasized his dissatisfaction with Ferrari’s performance, stating, “As a driver, I just cannot accept the situation we are in.” This sentiment follows a season where he has only reached the podium once, finishing third in Saudi Arabia.
Reflecting on the race, Leclerc noted the necessity of aggressive driving given his starting position of 11th, remarking, “It was one of those races where you’ve got to race with the heart and put the elbows out a little bit.” He acknowledged that incidents with Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon were simply part of racing and not errors on his part.
Looking forward to the upcoming Monaco GP, where he achieved his first career victory last season, Leclerc anticipates difficulties. “Monaco is exposing quite a few weaknesses of our car,” he stated. “I think it will be a very challenging weekend.”
As Ferrari continues to grapple with performance issues, the pressure mounts on both Leclerc and the team as they head into the next race.
