Hamilton Open to Verstappen Joining Mercedes
Silverstone, UK — Lewis Hamilton has expressed willingness to recommend Mercedes to Max Verstappen, amid ongoing speculation regarding the Dutch driver’s potential departure from Red Bull Racing at the end of the season. The suggestion comes as Verstappen faces continued challenges in securing consistent performance from his current car.
Hamilton, a seven-time World Champion and long-time rival of Verstappen, indicated his views during a media session at the British Grand Prix. "Of course, I would recommend Mercedes," he stated. Hamilton emphasized the quality and environment at Mercedes, acknowledging that Red Bull has been a dominant force in the sport. "Red Bull has been an incredible team… but Mercedes is also an amazing team," he added, noting the passion and skilled personnel at the German manufacturer.
This speculation about Verstappen’s future comes as he has been a target for Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who has previously confirmed discussions with the reigning World Champion. When pressed about these talks, Verstappen was coy, responding, “Who says that?”—before adding, “I have nothing to add.”
As the 2023 F1 season unfolds, the dynamics between these top drivers and teams will be closely monitored, especially regarding potential shifts in driver line-ups for the forthcoming seasons.
