Mexico City Grand Prix Secures Three-Year Extension Through 2028
The Mexico City Grand Prix, held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, has confirmed a three-year contract extension, securing its place on the Formula 1 calendar through the end of the 2028 season. This announcement comes as the event continues to capture large crowds and maintain a vibrant atmosphere, with over 400,000 fans expected to attend in 2024.
Since its return to the F1 schedule in 2015, the Mexico City Grand Prix has been a key fixture in the autumn segment of the season alongside the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas. Notably, this year’s race will mark the first occasion without any Mexican driver in the lineup, as Sergio Perez is currently absent.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed enthusiasm for the extension, stating, "The unique atmosphere created by our fans in Mexico City is one of the most incredible experiences in our championship." He extended gratitude to local government leaders, including President Claudia Sheinbaum and government head Clara Brugada, for their ongoing support.
Alejandro Soberon Kuri, president and CEO of race promoter CIE, emphasized the significant backing from local authorities that facilitated this extension. "This not only contributes to the economic development of Mexico City but also promotes our city and country globally," he noted. Soberon reaffirmed the commitment to delivering a premier live entertainment experience for fans, highlighting the event’s nearly ten-year track record of excellence.
As F1 approaches its conclusion, the Mexico City Grand Prix is set to remain a pivotal stop, further solidifying its legacy in the sport.
