Formula 1 Extends Mexico Grand Prix Contract Through 2028
Formula 1 has officially extended its contract with the promoters of the Mexico Grand Prix for an additional three years, ensuring that the event will remain on the calendar until 2028. This comes ahead of the concluding race of the current agreement scheduled for 2025 at Mexico City’s Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
The Mexico Grand Prix, which made its return in 2015, has become a cornerstone event in the F1 calendar, attracting a record total of 405,000 spectators last year. The strong interest in the race persisted even after the departure of local hero Sergio Perez from Red Bull, prompting organizers to secure a new deal amidst government support.
Alejandro Soberon, president and CEO of CIE, expressed enthusiasm over the continuation of the event, stating, “We are deeply grateful for the invaluable support of the Government of Mexico City, which has made it possible to continue bringing Formula 1 to our country.” He highlighted the event’s contribution to both economic development and the global promotion of Mexico City.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali echoed this sentiment, highlighting the unique atmosphere generated by fans in Mexico City as a vital component of the championship experience. “Every year the atmosphere is one of the most incredible and energetic experiences of our championship,” he stated.
The next edition is scheduled for October 26, 2025, as part of a double-header with the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Last year’s race featured a dramatic battle between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, with Carlos Sainz securing his final win for Ferrari.
This extension highlights the ongoing commitment of F1 to its global fanbase and the significance of the Mexico Grand Prix in the broader competitive landscape.
