Genesis Unveils Magma GT Concept, Signaling GT3 Ambitions
Paul Ricard, France — Genesis Motors has marked a significant milestone in its automotive portfolio by unveiling the Magma GT Concept, a model poised to underpin the brand’s entry into GT3 racing. The announcement took place on Thursday at the company’s new facility in Signes, coinciding with the introduction of the GV60 Magma SUV and the GMR-001 Hypercar, the latter set to debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) next year.
The Magma GT Concept, which features a mid-rear engine layout and aerodynamic body design, seeks to redefine Genesis’ performance identity. Notably equipped with gullwing doors, this two-seater sports car is still in development but aims to provide a racing variant to complement Genesis’ factory program in the WEC.
According to Luc Donckerwolke, president and chief creative officer of Genesis, “The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability.” He emphasized its balance, stating that it is designed to enhance driver skill rather than demand it, offering a seamless connection during high-pressure driving situations.
Genesis has traditionally focused on luxury vehicles, but this shift to a performance-oriented model marks a crucial strategy in its expansion into motorsport. The Magma GT is described as both a design manifesto and a strategic beacon for the brand, encapsulating Genesis’ long-term objectives.
The company’s initial racing initiative will focus on the Hypercar program with the Oreca-based GMR-001 LMDh, with aspirations to transition into GT3 racing as the Magma GT Concept takes shape. With experienced drivers engaged with the GMR-001 and a wealth of talent within the Hyundai Motorsport umbrella, the roadmap for Genesis’ competitive future appears promising.
As Genesis continues to evolve its performance offerings, the Magma GT Concept is a pivotal step towards establishing a robust presence in motorsports. The final specifications and full racing variant are expected to emerge in the coming months, setting the stage for a new era in Genesis performance.
