Iron Dames Withdraw from Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen Due to Injury
Watkins Glen, NY – The Iron Dames team has officially withdrawn its No. 83 Porsche 911 GT3 R from the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, following a foot injury sustained by driver Michelle Gatting during testing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
A team statement expressed their disappointment: “With heavy hearts, we announce the withdrawal from this weekend’s race. This difficult decision comes as a result of Michelle Gatting’s injury. Her health and recovery are our top priorities.” The statement also highlighted the team’s eagerness to return to competition, emphasizing their resilience and appreciation for fan support.
Gatting was set to share driving duties with Rahel Frey and Sarah Bovy, who previously finished eighth in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and 11th at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The withdrawal reduces the Watkins Glen entry list to 55 cars, including 20 in the GTD class.
In related news, Eric Filgueiras has announced his departure from Lone Star Racing ahead of the event. The 2023 GT World Challenge America champion stated, “After a series of discussions, we mutually agreed it wasn’t possible to move forward with the rest of the season.” He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete at a high level, particularly in prestigious events like the Rolex 24 and the Twelve Hours of Sebring. Filgueiras’ replacement in the No. 80 Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO will be announced shortly.
