AWA Eyes Historic Debut at 24 Hours of Le Mans
Le Mans, France – Andrew Wojteczko Autosport (AWA) enters the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend with a compelling narrative, mirroring their successful run at the Rolex 24 at Daytona earlier this year, where they clinched the GTD class victory. This marks AWA’s debut in the prestigious endurance race, with ambitions fueled by their recent accomplishments.
Wojteczko reflects on the team’s evolution: “Winning at Daytona was a huge accomplishment and a validation for everyone involved. It showcased the hard work of AWA, PME, and GM.” Since its establishment in 2018, AWA has transitioned from a single Ford Mustang GT4 to competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, capturing titles in LMP3 and earning a spot in the LMGT3 class at Le Mans with the new Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
Despite being newcomers relative to established teams such as WRT and Manthey, AWA’s roster includes Bronze driver Orey Fidani, Nürburgring 24 veteran Lars Kern, and accomplished driver Matthew Bell. “There’s a unique loyalty among our drivers,” Wojteczko noted, emphasizing their commitment to racing as a cohesive unit.
Fidani’s pursuit of the IMSA Bob Akin Award culminated in him earning a coveted ‘golden ticket’ to Le Mans. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to experience the iconic race alongside his teammates, stating, “It’s been a long ride, but we’re well sorted and aiming for a podium.”
The season has been marked by a mix of challenges and triumphs, including the unfortunate retirement of the Daytona-winning Z06 GT3.R, which has been replaced by a newly commissioned chassis for Le Mans. AWA anticipates support from TF Sport, enhancing their competitiveness against seasoned rivals.
Fidani also acknowledged the atmospheric allure of Le Mans. “This place is absolutely amazing. It’s surreal, and my head is on a swivel,” he added, as preparations ramp up for a grueling race. As AWA gears up for what could be a historic debut, the racing community watches closely, aware that Fidani, if successful, may join Ron Fellows as the only Canadian driver to win a major class at Le Mans.
As the 24-hour race unfolds, AWA’s blend of ambition and dedication places them in a strong position to compete for a milestone victory in GT history.
