Lamborghini to Halt SC63 LMDh Program After 2025 IMSA Season
Lamborghini’s SC63 LMDh program will go "on hold" following the completion of the 2025 IMSA season, as announced by the manufacturer. This decision comes after two seasons marked by limited success and challenges in competition.
The SC63 debuted in 2024 with an ambitious dual campaign in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA Endurance Cup, managed by Iron Lynx. However, the program has since shifted to an IMSA-only focus amid underwhelming results, including a seventh-place finish at Watkins Glen and retirements at prestigious races like the Rolex 24 Hours and the Sebring 12 Hours.
Key Observations
Lamborghini cited several factors for the halt, including a heavy crash at Paul Ricard, disappointing outcomes, and the introduction of a two-car rule in the FIA WEC set for 2025. The company had initially partnered with Riley to field a single SC63 for the biggest IMSA events this season while planning further development. However, recent performance indicated that significant enhancements were required for competitive viability, leading to the current course of action.
"In light of changed conditions and increasing resource demands," Lamborghini stated, "we have made the strategic decision to refocus efforts on the GT3 platform and Super Trofeo." The new Temerario GT3 and Super Trofeo models, which are entirely developed in-house, represent significant commitments moving forward.
Future Plans
The Temerario GT3, unveiled in July 2025 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, is set to make its competitive debut at the 2026 12 Hours of Sebring, while the Super Trofeo model is expected to be revealed by year-end.
The SC63’s last scheduled race will be at Petit Le Mans on October 11, with an earlier appearance anticipated at the Tire Rack.com Battle on the Bricks in September. If the SC63 does not return to competition, it would mark the end of the first LMDh program initiated by a major OEM.
Lamborghini remains committed to motorsports, asserting its dedication to exploring future racing opportunities.
