Lamborghini SC63 LMDh Program Nears Hiatus: Grosjean Prepares for Finale
As the 2025 season approaches its conclusion, the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh program is set to enter a hiatus in 2026. This marks the end of a significant chapter for Romain Grosjean, who reflects on his three-year involvement with the project heading into the final event at the 28th Motul Petit Le Mans.
Grosjean expresses a mix of sadness and commitment, noting the program’s progress: “We’ve been building it and getting better and better. It’s a bit of a shame to see that it’s getting paused,” he stated, acknowledging the effective updates from Lamborghini and the efforts of team Riley.
In discussing his future, Grosjean has indicated a waning interest in full-time GT3 racing, especially with Lamborghini’s new Temerario GT3 limited rollout. “I think GT is not really my cup of tea… I really enjoyed IndyCar and prototypes,” he said, considering options that include a return to the NTT IndyCar Series or participating in endurance races within IMSA.
Performance-wise, Grosjean praised the SC63’s recent rear suspension update designed to improve tire wear and vehicle compliance. He recorded competitive times during practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway—eighth in the first session and fourth in the second. This follows a successful history at the track, where he previously achieved pole position and podium finishes in IndyCar.
“It’s definitely going in the right direction,” Grosjean remarked on the SC63’s development. He emphasized the significance of the recent “joker” update, which had already shown promise during testing. “At Petit, definitely there would be a big change… maybe over a long run we should be better on tire degradation,” he added, pointing to the car’s improved performance in various conditions.
Having displayed strong pace during the Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen, where he led for an extended period, Grosjean is determined to secure a final podium finish. “Let’s try to have one podium; that would be good,” he affirmed, aligning with the team’s goals as they prepare for their last two races together.
The approach to the series’ conclusion holds gravity for both Grosjean and Lamborghini, encapsulating a journey of growth and aspiration amid the looming program hiatus.
