Watkins Glen, NY – The first half of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen showcased a dramatic array of weather shifts and strategic maneuvers, with the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963, driven by Matt Campbell, leading the field at the halfway point.
As part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the third round of the 2025 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, the race began under overcast skies before a heavy rain hit 30 minutes in, prompting multiple cautions and tire strategy changes.
Starting and Early Moves
Renger van der Zande led the 55-car field from pole position in the No. 93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian Acura ARX-06, but Felipe Nasr, starting from 10th, quickly advanced to the front by lap four in the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963, overtaking both van der Zande and Jack Aitken’s No. 31 Cadillac Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R.
Significant early gains were also made by Alessandro Pier Guidi, who surged from the back of the GTD grid to fourth place in the No. 21 Af Corse Ferrari 296 GT3.
Incidents and Conditions
The rain catalyzed a flurry of incidents, including a notable collision between the No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports and No. 11 TDS Racing ORECA LMP2 07, leading to a full-course caution and evaluations for both drivers. The race saw teams transition from slick tires to wets and back as conditions fluctuated.

The No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963 of Nasr and Nick Tandy currently leads the Michelin Endurance Cup standings in the GTP class, while the No. 43 Inter Europol entry holds the lead in LMP2. The No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW leads GTD PRO points, and the No. 21 Af Corse Ferrari has moved to the top in GTD.
