Logan Sargeant Rejoins Racing with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports in IMSA
Logan Sargeant is poised for a pivotal return to competitive racing as he signs with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports for the remainder of the IMSA Endurance Cup. After a turbulent year following his mid-season departure from Williams’ Formula 1 program, the 24-year-old Floridian is determined to revive his racing career.
Reflecting on his F1 experience, Sargeant expressed gratitude, stating, “It was a super amazing opportunity and experience… I wouldn’t trade that out for anything.” However, he acknowledged the mental and physical challenges he faced during his tenure. “I just needed to let the whole experience sink in,” he noted, indicating the importance of his time away from the sport for personal recovery and reassessment.
Despite stepping back from the paddock, Sargeant remained engaged with motorsport, maintaining his fitness and even returning to watch F1 in 2023. “I stayed active, in the gym… enjoying being a Florida boy,” he said.
Sargeant has prior LMP2 experience from 2021, where he drove for the Racing Team Turkey, making this shift to prototype racing a strategic move. His association with PR1/Mathiasen, under the leadership of ex-Corvette Racing driver Oliver Gavin, provides him with a promising platform as he prepares for upcoming races at Indianapolis and Road Atlanta.
“I was surprised how quickly this chance to race with PR1 came about… it’s with a great team,” he affirmed. His return will be marked by a test session at Indianapolis, setting the stage for his competitive debut in the No. 52 ORECA.
Looking ahead, Sargeant clarified his goals: “A return to Formula 1 isn’t the aim. Instead, it’s to find a home in endurance racing.” He remains open to future opportunities, including aspirations towards GTP or Hypercar classes as he ponders his long-term career trajectory.
“I do have time—plenty of time,” Sargeant concluded, indicating his readiness to embrace the next chapter in his racing journey.
