Mick Schumacher Joins Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for 2026 IndyCar Season
Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher, is officially set to join Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) in the IndyCar Series for the 2026 season. The 26-year-old driver completed a successful test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in October, paving the way for his transition from the Alpine World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar program.
Bobby Rahal, co-owner of RLL, expressed enthusiasm about Schumacher’s addition, stating, “His test with us on the IMS road course was exceptional – he impressed every single team member. Everyone walked away determined to bring Mick into our program.”
Schumacher will pilot the No. 47 Honda alongside veteran Graham Rahal and up-and-coming driver Louis Foster. “I am delighted to confirm today that I will be competing in the IndyCar Series next year with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, taking part in the full season,” Schumacher noted in a statement. He emphasized the value of his diverse racing background, stating, “I have insights and knowledge that I am sure will contribute to a great partnership.”
RLL team president Jay Frye, who facilitated Schumacher’s testing opportunity, remarked on the significance of the collaboration: “Opportunities like this are rare, and we couldn’t be more excited to see everything come together. Mick is an exceptional talent on the track and an outstanding young man off of it.”
As Schumacher gears up for this new chapter in his racing career, he expressed eagerness for the season ahead, highlighting the distinct character of American motorsport: “I was also immediately excited about the car and the American way of motorsport, which comes across as being more about pure and direct racing.”
With this strategic signing, RLL aims to strengthen its competitive edge in IndyCar, leveraging Schumacher’s experience and talent to achieve new milestones in the upcoming season.
