MX6 Kawasaki Team Faces Uncertain Future After Notable 2026 Season
In a surprising turn of events, the MX6 Kawasaki team, which made significant strides during the 2026 Monster Energy SuperMotocross Championship, is now facing an uncertain future. The team, previously operating as a privateer outfit, elevated its performance with strategic changes, including the hiring of Olly Stone, a former Monster Energy/Pro Circuit mechanic, as team manager and the establishment of a new race shop ahead of the season.
Competing with riders Marshal Weltin, Derek Kelley, and Henry Miller, the team demonstrated promise, notably with Miller achieving a career-best fifth place in the 250SX main event at the Detroit Supercross in March. Young talent Gavin Betts also participated in the SMX Next series, while Alexander Fedortsov’s season was hampered by a shoulder injury, limiting his appearances primarily to the Triple Crown Series in Canada.
Despite the team’s recent successes, uncertainty looms as Weltin announced his retirement following the conclusion of the SMX season. Looking ahead to 2027, the team is set for a fresh start with new riders Park and Temmerman lined up. However, indications of difficulty have arisen, potentially linked to health issues affecting the principal owner, as hinted by a recent tweet from a team insider.
As the team navigates this transition, the motorsports community watches closely, pondering the long-term implications of these developments on MX6 Kawasaki’s ambitions in the sport.
