NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs: Bell Gains Momentum with Strong Finish at Watkins Glen
As the NASCAR Cup Series regular season nears its conclusion, competitors locked into the playoffs are eager to establish momentum. Christopher Bell, facing significant challenges in recent races, made significant strides with a second-place finish in the Go Bowling at the Glen at Watkins Glen International.
Entering Sunday’s event, Bell had struggled through the previous six races, with finishes of 30th in Atlanta, 24th in Chicago, 18th in Dover, and 17th in Iowa, managing only one top-five finish—fifth at Sonoma—in a span of seven races. However, his performance at Watkins Glen marked a pivotal recovery point.
Post-race, Bell expressed satisfaction with his effort: “Happy, yeah. I’m thrilled.” Despite not clinching victory, he underscored his team’s resilience and potential as the playoffs approach.
Reflecting on the challenges faced, he acknowledged, “We’ve been struggling a bit to find a rhythm… Really awesome to have a good day.” He notably credited Shane van Gisbergen, who won the race and has displayed dominance in road course events this season, stating, “Frustrated to get our butts kicked by the No. 88. He’s doing a really good job. That team has it really going on. We need to find a little bit more, but certainly happy.”
With the playoffs looming, Bell’s performance at Watkins Glen signals a potential turnaround as drivers prepare for a critical close to the regular season.
