Joe Gibbs Racing Aims for Mechanical Reliability Ahead of NASCAR Cup Series Finale
Phoenix Raceway, AZ – As Joe Gibbs Racing prepares for the decisive NASCAR Cup Series championship race this Sunday, the team has implemented rigorous measures to avert mechanical issues that have plagued them in recent weeks. Drivers Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe will represent Gibbs in the title fight against Hendrick Motorsports.
“We’ve been on that all morning. We’ve got the parts out and looked at everything,” said team owner Joe Gibbs regarding the extensive checks on components. “Issues with the motors are always concerning, but we’ve understood where we are, made adjustments, and those problematic parts will not be in the cars for this weekend.”
Hamlin’s No. 11 team has faced multiple mechanical failures, including a starter problem before qualifying at Martinsville and a blown engine during the race, which ended his day prematurely. Additionally, power steering and throttle issues at Kansas Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, respectively, highlight the team’s ongoing challenges with batteries, starters, and clutches.
“I’m obviously concerned, but there’s nothing I can do about it,” Hamlin remarked about the Martinsville engine failure. “I’m confident in the speed we’ll have next week and what this team will bring.”
In a parallel situation, Briscoe also faced engine troubles during the Martinsville race, cutting his performance short. “I felt good about where we were at racing with Kyle Larson,” he noted, expressing disappointment over the unexpected failure.
As Gibbs seeks its first championship since 2019, both Hamlin and Briscoe aim for their inaugural Cup Series titles this weekend. The stakes are high, and mechanical reliability will be crucial in determining the outcome.
