Hamlin Addresses Tensions with Gibbs Following New Hampshire Incident
Denny Hamlin confirmed discussions at Joe Gibbs Racing regarding his recent on-track incident with teammate Ty Gibbs, which unfolded at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Hamlin described the meetings as productive but kept specific details confidential.
“I think they’re in a good place,” Hamlin stated at Kansas Speedway, highlighting the forward-looking nature of the discussions. The incident in question occurred during the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, where Hamlin spun Gibbs on lap 110 after expressing concerns over Gibbs’s racing tactics, particularly in relation to championship contenders.
Gibbs, whose race ended early due to damage from the incident, did not directly comment on the confrontation but remarked, “Game on” over the radio. Hamlin dismissed any immediate concerns about retaliation, emphasizing the priority of establishing a clear racing protocol among team drivers.
“All the drivers had an opportunity to speak and try to come up with a plan,” Hamlin noted. Reflecting on the incident, he acknowledged that he could have approached the situation differently. “I certainly got hot under the collar. It went too far on my end, and certainly there were things that I could have done a little differently,” he admitted.
As the playoffs continue, the focus remains on team cohesion and strategy moving forward.
