NASCAR Cup Series: Logano Clinches Victory at Texas
In a thrilling conclusion to the NASCAR Cup race at Texas, Joey Logano secured his 37th career win, overcoming a challenging start from 27th position. Ross Chastain, who started 31st, finished second, marking his best result of the season.
Logano made a decisive move with just four laps remaining, taking the lead from Michael McDowell, who had been holding off challengers on older tires. McDowell’s attempt to defend was aggressive; however, Logano’s persistence paid off as he seized the inside line to claim the lead. Shortly after, McDowell crashed into the wall, prompting an overtime finish.
“I’m so proud of the team. It is crazy how you can just ride these roller coasters,” stated Logano, who also celebrated a milestone win for AAA Insurance, a partner for over a decade. He reflected on the race’s challenges, saying, “Slowly. Methodically. We just grabbed a couple here and there and eventually we get the win.”
The final restart saw Logano fend off his Penske teammate, Ryan Blaney, as well as Chastain, who managed to move into second but couldn’t close the gap. Blaney finished third, marking him as the only Penske driver yet to win this season, despite Austin Cindric’s triumph in the previous race at Talladega.
Chastain noted the team’s resilience, stating, “We made an adjustment during the race and it fixed the car. With just one adjustment, it brought this Tootsies Chevy to life.”
The race featured multiple cautions, with early DNFs including Denny Hamlin, who faced engine failure, and a significant incident involving Kyle Busch and Carson Hocevar. The unpredictable nature of the track led to several lead changes and strategic pit stops.
