Larson Takes Pole at Kansas Speedway Ahead of AdventHealth 400
Kyle Larson secured the pole position for Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway, clocking a lap of 29.391 seconds at 183.730 mph, outpacing Chris Buescher, who qualified second with a time of 29.448 seconds at 183.374 mph. This marks a significant repeat of last year’s dramatic finale at the same venue, where Larson edged out Buescher by just 0.001 seconds, the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series history.
"It’s pretty ironic to have us both on the front row here after our close finish a year ago," Larson remarked. "I’m proud of the whole HendrickCars team and hopeful for a good race tomorrow."
Buescher expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting, "That was a really awesome lap for our Kroger/Kleenex Ford Mustang. We missed it by that much, but we’re in a good spot. Clean air is crucial here."
Christopher Bell qualified third at 183.268 mph, followed by Tyler Reddick in fourth at 183.150 mph, and Joey Logano securing the fifth spot at 182.871 mph. The top ten also featured Ty Gibbs (sixth), William Byron (seventh), Daniel Suarez (eighth), Chase Elliott (ninth), and Ryan Blaney (tenth).
Notably, Zane Smith qualified 18th after sustaining damage during practice due to a blown right rear tire, while Alex Bowman (21st) and Ross Chastain (26th) struggled in their sessions. Kyle Busch, a previous winner at Kansas, placed 35th after hitting the wall during his fast lap. Josh Berry rounded out the field in 38th after a similar mishap.
A total of 38 teams will compete for Sunday’s race, which begins at 3 p.m. ET.
