Logano Eyes Talladega with Caution Ahead of Crucial Race
Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford, approaches Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway with a sense of cautious optimism. Currently 24 points below the playoff transfer spot, Logano aims for a victory that would propel him into the championship race.
Despite historically performing well at Talladega, Logano has yet to finish in the top 10 with the Next Gen car, with his best result in the last seven races being 19th. He recognizes the unpredictable nature of superspeedway racing, stating, “I feel like we’re the favorites to win this thing, but all it takes is one mistake…”
Logano’s last victory at Talladega came in 2018, and he remains eager to leverage his past success as well as the strength of his team going into this critical race. “We’ve led a lot of laps… I feel confident in our ability,” he commented.
Starting this postseason as the No. 12 seed with a limited number of playoff points, Logano’s recent sixth-place finish in Las Vegas did little to improve his standing. However, he is open to multiple pathways to advancement. “If it wasn’t Talladega, maybe I would say it’s a must-win,” he explained, recognizing the unique dynamics of superspeedway racing.
With two races remaining, including the pivotal Talladega event, Logano remains focused on maximizing his chances.
