NASCAR to Launch Historic San Diego Event in 2026
NASCAR will hold its inaugural event at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego from June 19-21, 2026. This marked event will feature a 16-turn, 3.4-mile course, making it the longest track on the 2026 schedule. Specific lap distances are yet to be determined, but NASCAR has released preliminary designs of the layout.
Course Highlights:
- Ellyson Start/Finish Line: Named in honor of Commander Theodore Ellyson, the first naval aviator, recognizing his role in establishing North Island as the “Birthplace of Naval Aviation.”
- Carrier Corner (Turn 5): A sharp left-hand turn situated between the docking points of two aircraft carriers, likely to be a critical passing zone.
- Coronado Chicane (Turn 8): This section presents a complex series of turns that will pose a significant challenge as drivers navigate deeper into the base.
- Runway Road (Turn 14): Located near the north end of Runway 18/36 at Halsey Field, this turn pays homage to the base’s aviation heritage.
NASCAR San Diego President Amy Lupo commented, “It’s so exciting to finally share the street course layout… We can’t wait to see how the best drivers in the world meet this challenge, while celebrating America’s Navy.”
Access to the event will be segmented: Friday is reserved for U.S. Navy members and a select group of Coronado residents. The general public will gain entry on Saturday and Sunday.
Ticketing details are as follows: pre-sale deposits begin on October 23, with general ticket sales opening on November 7.
