Kyle Busch to Work with Jim Pohlman as Crew Chief Starting 2026
Talladega Superspeedway, AL — Richard Childress Racing (RCR) announced that Jim Pohlman will replace Randall Burnett as the crew chief for Kyle Busch’s No. 8 Chevrolet beginning in the 2026 season. Pohlman, currently working with Justin Allgaier in the Xfinity Series, has helped Allgaier secure nine wins and is defending a title.
“We had a few conversations, and Jim seemed to rise to the top,” Busch stated at Talladega. “I’m excited about that opportunity and to work with him.”
Pohlman is known for his strong work ethic and leadership. Before joining the Xfinity Series, he served as RCR’s head of research and development. His experience in the Cup Series includes 20 starts with drivers such as Juan Pablo Montoya and Austin Dillon.
Busch highlighted Pohlman’s passion and leadership during their discussions, remarking, “It’s yet to be seen what he can do… I hope he’ll lead the turnaround not just of our team but the entire Childress organization.”
Allgaier expressed confidence in the pairing, asserting, “Kyle is very analytical… I know Jim will match or exceed that effort.” He emphasized that Pohlman’s intensity for winning aligns perfectly with Busch’s competitive nature.
This change in crew chief marks the third for Busch at RCR, following Burnett and Andy Street, who stepped in after Burnett’s upcoming departure to Trackhouse Racing was announced. The swift decision to hire Pohlman took place less than a month after Burnett’s exit was publicized.
As Busch approaches his 21st season in the Cup Series, he seeks to end a winless streak that has extended since 2023—the longest of his career—while looking to restore his competitive edge within the RCR framework.
