Ryan Preece and Joey Logano Disqualified Post-Talladega: Key Impacts on Standings
At Talladega Superspeedway, Ryan Preece and Joey Logano have both been disqualified following post-race inspections for the NASCAR Cup Series, drastically reshaping the race results and standings.
Race Overview and Disqualification Details
Austin Cindric’s victory is now confirmed after his No. 2 Team Penske Ford passed inspection. The results subsequent to the disqualifications promote Kyle Larson to second, William Byron to third, Noah Gragson to fourth, and Chase Elliott to fifth. The official results now list Cindric in first and place Preece and Logano in 38th and 39th, respectively, eliminating their stage points—five for Preece and nine for Logano.
Both disqualified cars faced issues related to the rear spoiler. Preece’s No. 60 RFK Racing Ford was found to have three carbon fiber shims installed, exceeding the allowed limit of two at superspeedways. Logano’s No. 22 Team Penske Ford had a loose bolt on the rear spoiler.
Standings Impact
As a result of the disqualifications, Preece drops from 12th to 18th in the regular season standings, missing out on provisional playoff eligibility. Logano falls from eighth to 11th in points.
Team Responses and Further Investigations
Team Penske has opted not to appeal Logano’s disqualification, acknowledging the loose bolt as an unintended issue. A statement read, “This was not intentional and happened throughout the course of the race event. Team Penske accepts the disqualification.”
RFK Racing has yet to announce its decision regarding an appeal.
In addition, the No. 5 Chevrolet of Larson, the No. 10 Chevrolet of Ty Dillon, the No. 21 Ford of Josh Berry, and the No. 23 Toyota of Bubba Wallace are returning to the NASCAR R&D Center for further engine inspections, with Larson and Berry’s cars undergoing complete teardown and analysis.
This incident underscores the critical nature of compliance with technical regulations in NASCAR, as teams face significant consequences for infractions.
