Sebring International Raceway: Porsche Dominates as Night Approaches
As the pivotal final hours of the Sebring 12 Hours unfold, Porsche Penske Motorsport maintains a commanding presence. Laurin Heinrich, driving the #7 Penske Porsche 963, climbed from ninth to the leading position, resetting the fastest lap shortly after a recent restart and establishing a six-second lead over teammate Laurens Vanthoor in the #6 Porsche.
The race has seen a solid Porsche 1-2 performance, with Julien Andlauer now behind the wheel of the leading #7 entry. The top five is rounded out by the #60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06 of Colin Braun, the #10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R driven by Filipe Albuquerque, and the No. 24 Team WRT BMW M Hybrid V8 of Dries Vanthoor.
Despite a full-course yellow caused by the #14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC F GT3, which suffered a puncture and subsequently a lost wheel while in a strong position, Porsche has successfully navigated challenges. The caution marked the first interruption since the fifth hour of the race.
In LMP2, AO Racing continues to lead with Dane Cameron in the #99 ORECA 07-Gibson ahead of Hunter McElrea’s #2 United Autosports USA entry, while Toby Sowery’s #04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR car sits third.
In the highly competitive GTD Pro category, the #911 Manthey “Grello” car regained the lead after the #77 AO Racing Porsche encountered issues during the caution period. Alessio Picariello quickly pushed the “Roxy” back into contention, now sitting second behind race leader Ricardo Feller. Neil Verhagen’s No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO occupies third place, followed closely by Antonio García in the #3 Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.R.
In GTD, the #27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3 leads, with Zacharie Robichon at the helm, followed by Callum Ilott in the No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche and Lars Kern in the Autosport Corvette.
However, the race is not without its retirements; the #45 Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO and #023 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari have officially retired due to mechanical failures. Both the #43 Inter Europol Competition ORECA LMP2 and No. 48 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG have also faced significant mechanical issues, potentially affecting their finishing positions.
With three crucial hours remaining, the battle at Sebring remains dynamic, and the outcome could shift dramatically in the closing laps.
