2026 Legends of Le Mans Preview: 19 Cars Set for Imola Action
This weekend marks the inaugural round of the Legends of Le Mans, running as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s (WEC) 6 Hours of Imola. A total of 19 cars will compete across various classes, promising an exciting showcase of motorsport heritage.
LMP1 Highlights
The LMP1 category features an eight-car lineup, prominently showcasing four Peugeot 908s divided into two V12 and two V8 configurations. Shaun Lynn and Kriton Lentoudis will drive the BBM Sport-prepared 908 HDI FAPs, while Stuart Wiltshire and Steve Brooks take the wheel of the V8 entries. Race Performance enters two Lolas piloted by Michel Frey and Marcel Aebi. Additionally, Christian Albrecht will compete in a Lola Aston Martin DBR1/2, and reigning Le Mans Cup LMP3 Pro/Am champion Eric De Doncker will drive an OAK Pescarolo 01.
LMP2 Contenders
The LMP2 class features nine entrants, including three Ligier JS P2 cars from Rinaldi Racing for drivers Pierre Ehret, Jacques Nicolet, and Michael Doppelmayr. Evgeny Kireev will race an ORECA 05, while Nick Adcock pilots a BBM Sport Lola B11/83 Coupe. François Heriau will also drive an LMP2-spec OAK Pescarolo 01, and Andy Cummings will race a Pescarolo 01 Morgan. Notably, Mark Drain will bring the HPD ARX-04 to the track for its ACO debut.
GTE Class Participants
Completing the grid are two cars in the GTE class: Franz Wunderlich in an Aston Martin Vantage AMR and Professor Wolfgang Henseler racing an ex-Alex Job Racing Lotus Evora GTE.
Event Format and Broadcast
The Legends of Le Mans will consist of two 40-minute races, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19. Both races will be live-streamed on the Peter Auto YouTube channel, featuring commentary from Martin Haven and Graham Goodwin.
