Porsche Penske Motorsport Honors 75 Years of Porsche with Special Livery at Laguna Seca

Laguna Seca, CA — In a celebration of milestones, Porsche Penske Motorsport will unveil a special livery at the upcoming race at Laguna Seca, commemorating both the 75th anniversary of Porsche Motorsport and the 50th anniversary of Apple. This design pays homage to the iconic 1980 Dick Barbour Racing Porsche 935 K3, featuring the distinctive rainbow spectrum and the vintage Apple logo.

Oliver Schusser, Vice President of Apple Music, Sports and Beats, stated, “We’ve enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Porsche, going back to 1980 when a Porsche race car first carried the Apple logo. That moment marked the beginning of a shared passion for innovation and creativity that continues to define our collaboration today.”

The original Apple Computers Porsche 935 K3 participated in the 1980 IMSA season but only made a singular appearance at that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Despite its brief history, it remains an enduring symbol within Porsche’s storied motorsport legacy.

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, remarked, “What began with the debut of the Porsche 911 at the 1963 IAA Motor Show is mirrored by the Apple Computer: both are icons that stand for innovation and continuous development.”

Porsche Penske Motorsport enters the Laguna Seca event on a strong note, having secured victories in the last two races at this track with the 963 model. The team currently leads the GTP standings, with drivers Felipe Nasr and Julien Andlauer at the forefront of the championship.

As the festivities unfold at Laguna Seca, a location significant to both Porsche and Apple given its proximity to Cupertino, the motorsport community eagerly anticipates the resonance of this partnership and the tribute it represents.
