Porsche Unveils Next-Generation 911 Cup Car for 2026 Season

Porsche has officially introduced the new 911 Cup car, set to debut across its global one-make series, including the Mobil 1 Supercup, in the 2026 season. Built on the 992.2 platform, this model represents a significant evolution, focusing on enhanced performance, reduced operational costs, and improved usability for teams and drivers.

The new vehicle, which simplifies its designation to just "911 Cup," will replace the outgoing 992-generation 911 GT3 Cup, previously launched in 2020. This change reflects Porsche’s efforts to streamline nomenclature across its customer racing range, ensuring the ‘GT’ designation is reserved for open-brand GT racing models.

Key Technical Features

The latest 911 Cup has received notable enhancements:

  • Aerodynamics: A refreshed front-end design is closely aligned with the recent 911 GT3, incorporating integrated louvre fender vents and refined underbody construction aimed at boosting downforce and cooling capabilities.
  • Powertrain: The naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine now produces 520 PS (382 kW), a 10 PS increase while maintaining a 100-hour engine life. Improvements include enhanced throttle valves and camshafts, eliminating the need for a central throttle body.
  • Transmission: A six-speed sequential dogbox is now paired with a sintered-metal clutch, featuring an auto-restart function post-stall and a race-start strobe light for increased safety during starts.

Braking has also been optimized, with larger 380 mm front discs and an advanced Bosch M5 ABS system standard across all units. The updated design improves low-speed agility and offers enhanced cornering dynamics.

Interior and Electronics

The driver-focused cockpit now includes a multi-function steering wheel with illuminated dials for ABS and traction control settings. Additionally, on-board electronics have been upgraded to include a GPS-based timing system and telemetry displays for tyre pressure and air temperature.

Production and Pricing

The new 911 Cup will be priced at €269,000 (excluding VAT) and is set to be manufactured at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen plant alongside its road cars. Since the rollout of the previous model in 2020, over 1,100 units have been produced, contributing to a total of 5,281 Porsche 911s for one-make competition.

Leadership Insights

Matthias Scholz, Porsche’s director of GT racing cars, highlighted the vehicle’s advancements: “This car is stronger, faster, and more practical… we’ve improved performance without sacrificing durability." Thomas Laudenbach, VP of Porsche Motorsport, emphasized that the design balances series components with racing technology to maintain driving challenges that benefit aspiring drivers and champions.

As the motorsport landscape evolves, the new 911 Cup car stands ready to push competitive boundaries, continuing Porsche’s legacy in performance and innovation.
