Tragedy Strikes at ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers
Nürburg, Germany – The opening race of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers was abruptly halted and subsequently cancelled following a severe accident involving seven vehicles. In a tragic turn of events, driver Juha Miettinen lost his life after being extracted from his BMW 325i.
According to a bulletin from race control, the incident occurred during the early portion of the race on April 18, 2026. Despite the swift response of emergency services, Miettinen was pronounced dead at the Medical Centre after resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The remaining six drivers involved were taken to local hospitals for precautionary examinations; none sustained life-threatening injuries.
Race control stated, “The race will not resume on Saturday evening. Our thoughts are with the bereaved family of Juha Miettinen.” A minute’s silence will be observed before Sunday’s race in his honor.
Condolences have poured in from various stakeholders in the motorsports community. The SRO Motorsports Group expressed deep sympathy, stating, “SRO extends its sincere condolences to Juha’s family and friends and stands in solidarity with the event organisers, ADAC.”
BMW M Motorsport also released a statement, emphasizing their grief: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the fatal accident of Juha Miettinen. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Miettinen, known for his passion for motorsport, particularly at the Nürburgring, was remembered fondly by friends and colleagues. Photographer Jochen Van Cauwenberge shared, “Juha was a kind, cultivated guy who loved the ‘Ring and always had a smile on his face in the paddock.”
