Practice Report: 28th Annual Motul Petit Le Mans

Lead:
Jack Aitken and Cadillac Whelen topped Practice 2 for the 28th annual Motul Petit Le Mans, showcasing impressive speed with the fastest lap of the weekend at 1:10.882 in the #31 Cadillac V-Series.R.

Session Highlights:

  • Aitken’s lap unseated Filipe Albuquerque, who held second with a 1:11.290 in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac.
  • Following Aitken and Albuquerque were GTP Championship leader Matt Campbell in the #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963, clocking a 1:11.175, and Dries Vanthoor in the #24 Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8 (1:11.303).
  • Ross Gunn in the #23 Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyrie rounded out the top five with a time of 1:11.356.

Incidents:

  • The session faced three interruptions due to red flags. The #81 DragonSpeed Ferrari suffered mechanical issues early on, impacting its qualifying lap.
  • The #99 AO Racing ORECA LMP2 spun and subsequently was struck by the #65 Ford Mustang GT3, while the #80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 also stranded on track towards the end.

Class Results:

  • In LMP2, Alex Quinn led with a 1:13.074 in the #04 Oreca 07-Gibson, followed by Hunter McElrea from TDS Racing at 1:13.310.
  • Oliver Jarvis, Juan Manuel Correa, and Benjamin Pedersen completed the LMP2 top five.
  • GTD PRO saw Aaron Telitz clock 1:19.180 in the #14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus, narrowly ahead of Sebastian Priaulx’s Mustang.
  • In GTD, a Ferrari clean sweep was highlighted by Kenton Koch’s 1:19.158 with the #023 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari.
