AO Racing Unveils ‘Sketchy’ Ahead of IMSA Throwback Weekend at Laguna Seca
Costa Mesa, CA – AO Racing has introduced a new concept car named “Sketchy” in preparation for the IMSA’s first official throwback weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The innovative design pays homage to the team’s history while embracing its origins.
Sketchy features a distinctive livery that mirrors the early design concepts of its predecessor, “Rexy,” which debuted at the 2023 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The aesthetics showcase a designer’s sketchpad approach, adorned with green marker scribbles and rough pen strokes.
Team Principal Gunnar Jeannette commented, “When I heard Laguna Seca was going to be IMSA’s first official throwback event, I was very excited as a long-time sportscar fan. It posed an interesting challenge for AO since we don’t have a traditional history to reference. We felt our fans would appreciate seeing Rexy’s origin story.”
Sketchy will make its competitive debut at the StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship next week, where drivers Nick Tandy and Harry King aim to secure back-to-back victories in the GTD Pro category, following last year’s win by Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler.
In conjunction with the car launch, AO Racing is offering limited-run Sketchy merchandise available for purchase during the Air|Water Porsche festival and at the Laguna Seca event.
For fans and enthusiasts, this debut not only underscores AO Racing’s creative direction but also reinforces the importance of community within the sport.
