Barwell Motorsport Expands with New GT3 Heritage Division for 2026
Barwell Motorsport has announced a significant expansion for the 2026 season, launching a new GT3 Heritage division that will compete in both the GT3 Legends and the freshly established GT3 Revival Series. This initiative marks a poignant return to the team’s roots, aligning with the 20th anniversary of the GT3 formula, which Barwell first contested during the inaugural FIA GT3 event at Silverstone in 2006.
As one of only three teams still active from the original GT3 grid, Barwell boasts a track record of multiple national and international titles alongside over 50 race victories, primarily in partnership with Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
For the upcoming season, Barwell plans to field multiple entries in the two new series. The GT3 Legends championship, managed by Motor Racing Legends, is expanding following a successful 2025 season. Simultaneously, the GT3 Revival Series, overseen by Peter Auto and SRO, will debut with a five-round schedule, featuring events at prestigious venues such as Le Mans Classic and Spa-Classic.
Barwell intends to include a variety of cars in its lineup, featuring the British GT title-winning BMW Z4 GT3, Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+, and Audi R8 LMS. The team also expresses a willingness to support owner-drivers, reflecting its history with machinery such as the Aston Martin DBRS9 and Vantage V12 during the formative years of GT3.
The new heritage categories will cater primarily to Bronze-graded amateur drivers, while Pro-Am combinations will also be eligible. The format will typically include two 50-minute races and extended practice sessions, with significantly lower costs compared to modern GT3 competition.
In addition to on-track initiatives, Barwell is launching a suite of workshop services targeting early GT3 cars, including restoration and race preparation.
Team Principal Mark Lemmer emphasized the importance of this move: “We are hugely excited at the prospect of going back to our GT racing roots with campaigns in two fantastic new series… these are exciting times for both modern and classic GT3 racing, and Barwell Motorsport will continue to be at the heart of the action.”
Barwell’s current GT3 program with Lamborghini will continue alongside these new Heritage projects in 2026.
