Tom Blomqvist to Join United Autosports for Chevrolet Grand Prix at CTMP
Acura Meyer Shank Racing driver Tom Blomqvist will race for United Autosports at the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), stepping in for Paul di Resta, who is unavailable due to a schedule clash with the WEC 6 Hours of São Paulo. This one-off appearance marks Blomqvist’s return to the LMP2 category, partnering with championship leader Daniel Goldburg in the #22 ORECA 07-Gibson.
CTMP will feature the LMP2 class but not the GTP category, allowing Blomqvist to compete in the season’s first sprint race. Blomqvist last raced with United Autosports during the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship season, achieving pole positions at Spa-Francorchamps and Bahrain and a second-place finish at Spa.
“I’m grateful Daniel and the United Autosports team have entrusted me to fill in for Paul,” Blomqvist stated. “We want to carry the momentum from our last victories into Mosport. I’m excited, I love these cars and I love this track.”
Goldburg, currently leading the LMP2 Drivers’ Championship with wins at Daytona and Watkins Glen, emphasized the importance of Blomqvist’s inclusion: “I asked around for recommendations, and Tom’s name kept coming up. We had a great test at Mosport, so I’m definitely looking forward to the race.”
United Autosports CEO Richard Dean added, “Tom is fast, reliable and a proven winner … the perfect driver to join Daniel and the #22 crew as we go for another strong result in Canada.”
Goldburg currently leads the championship by 94 points over Gar Robinson and Felipe Fraga, and holds the top position in the Michelin Endurance Cup standings as well.
An additional driver announcement for United Autosports’ #2 ORECA is anticipated later this week.
