Climax Racing Claims Pole Position at Inaugural 12H Malaysia
Climax Racing secured pole position for the inaugural 12H Malaysia, with their #999 Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO clocking an impressive average time of 2:04.556. The Chinese team narrowly edged out Absolute Racing’s #10 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) by just 0.017 seconds, showcasing a tightly contested qualifying session.
The Climax Racing team, which includes Elias Seppänen, Zhou Bihuang, and Tanart Sathienthirakul, will be bolstered by Li Lichao for the 12-hour race starting tomorrow. Notably, Patric Niederhauser of Absolute Racing achieved the fastest individual qualifying lap at 2:03.893, though a quicker 2:03.684 was disallowed due to track limits.
“It’s a long race, 12 hours, a lot can happen – but pole position is the best place you want to start the race from,” Seppänen remarked. “The car is feeling good, and we made good improvements throughout the last two days.”
Two additional Porsches, the #87 Origine Motorsport entry and the #26 Winhere Bquick Absolute Racing car, secured third and fourth positions, respectively. The #93 Ajith RedAnt Racing Mercedes-AMG and the local squad Viper Niza Racing rounded out the top five.
Qualifying provided a dramatic backdrop, with two GT3 vehicles unable to participate: the #69 Continental Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II faced a gearbox change, while the #91 Herberth Motorsport entry encountered electrical issues.
In the 992 class, Red Camel-Jordans.nl clinched pole position in their #909 Porsche, overcoming a deficit of over two seconds to Mühlner Motorsport, winning by a mere 0.049 seconds. The #666 610 Racing entry claimed 992 AM pole position.
The inaugural Michelin 12H Malaysia, part of the 2025/26 24H Series Middle East Trophy, is set to commence at 10:00 local time tomorrow.
