GT World Challenge Europe: Schedule Overhaul Due to Severe Weather

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya — Heavy rainfall has significantly disrupted the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup, prompting an immediate reevaluation of the event schedule. Following the interruption of Race 1, worsening conditions led to the cancellation of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe support race for the day.

With local forecasts predicting rainfall rates of up to 90mm per hour, and total precipitation exceeding 200mm in six hours, the situation remains critical. A local government directive has banned all track activities until 14:00 CEST on Sunday, necessitating a new timetable to optimize track usage.

As it stands, Qualifying 2 is slated for 11:15 CEST, followed by Race 2 at 16:00 CEST. However, SRO Motorsports Group has indicated that the primary focus will be on completing the four scheduled races rather than the qualifying sessions for the GT World Challenge Europe and McLaren Trophy Europe.

A statement from the series underscored the gravity of the situation:

“Due to persistent heavy rain at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the race directors have declared that conditions are not safe to continue with today’s schedule. As such, the remainder of Saturday’s activities have been canceled.”

Further updates will be released in due course as the event organizers assess the evolving weather conditions, emphasizing that the Sunday program will begin at 14:00 and include races for the GT World Challenge, Lamborghini Super Trofeo, McLaren Trophy Europe, and the GT3 Revival Series.

Stay tuned for updates on the revised timetable.
