Genesis Magma Racing Advances with GMR-001 Hypercar Testing

Genesis Magma Racing has embarked on an important phase for its GMR-001 Hypercar with the successful completion of its shakedown at the team’s new facility in Le Castellet, France. This marks a significant step in the team’s ambitious development timeline ahead of the car’s entry into the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship.

The GMR-001, powered by a turbo V8 engine, is the first of three planned development chassis. Constructed by ORECA, it features a bare carbon fiber finish, emphasizing its cutting-edge design. The shakedown allows engineers to validate mechanical and electrical systems, crucial for further testing and homologation.

Cyril Abiteboul, team principal, emphasized the importance of this milestone: “After planning for and talking about these moments for the last eight months, seeing the finished car running as we planned is incredibly exciting.” He noted that the testing initiates the integration of various streams within the team, aligning chassis design with engine development.

The next steps involve an extensive European testing schedule. Drivers André Lotterer and Pipo Derani have already participated in simulator sessions to establish a baseline setup and will now contribute directly to the on-track testing.

Technical director FX Demaison remarked, “Every bit of running we do with the GMR-001 Hypercar in 2025 is extremely valuable,” highlighting the collaborative nature of the project with ORECA as they seek to leverage data from each test to refine performance rapidly.

With this progress, Genesis Magma Racing is on track to solidify its competitiveness in the forthcoming championship season.
