Ford GT Mk IV Achieves Record Lap at Nürburgring

The Ford GT Mk IV has etched its name into motorsports history by clocking a remarkable 6:15.977 lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, becoming the third fastest car to conquer the iconic track. Driven by two-time Nürburgring 24 Hours champion Frédéric Vervisch, the GT Mk IV also claims the title of the quickest production car and the fastest vehicle powered solely by an internal combustion engine.

This iteration of the Ford GT showcases a specially-tuned Ford EcoBoost engine generating over 800 horsepower, complemented by an advanced racing suspension and gearbox. With only 67 units slated for production, the GT Mk IV combines exclusivity with performance.

The only vehicles to surpass its time are the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo at 5:19.546 and the Volkswagen ID.R at 6:05.336.

In reflecting on the driving experience, Vervisch stated, “The car is an absolute weapon, a true extension of your will. … You feel the history of the track, and you feel the immense capability of the Ford Racing engineers who poured their hearts into this machine.”
