Ford Racing Unveils Mustang GT3 Evo Kit Ahead of 2026 Debut
Ford Racing has announced advancements in the Mustang GT3’s Evo kit, set to debut during the 2026 racing season, following initial unveilings at the November IMSA Sanctioned Test at Daytona International Speedway. Global Sports Car Manager Alex Allmandinger detailed the upgrades during a recent discussion, highlighting a commitment to the brand’s racing heritage while optimizing the platform based on extensive data collection and testing over the past two years.
“The evolution of the Mustang GT3 has been designed to elevate our competitive edge, starting with the 24 Hours of Daytona,” stated Allmandinger. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the essence of the Mustang while integrating key enhancements in three critical areas: aerodynamics, kinematics, and braking.
Aerodynamic Enhancements
The most visible updates include new dive planes on the front bumper, designed to enhance downforce without compromising ride height sensitivity. A revised splitter and rear diffuser are also part of the overhaul, aimed at maximizing aerodynamic efficiency.
Suspension and Kinematics
The front and rear suspension kinematics have been refined to improve vehicle stability and tire performance, aligning with the new aero package’s goals. “This kinematic update changes the dynamic behavior of the car, benefiting performance on various track types and tire compounds,” Allmandinger explained.
Braking System Upgrade
The switch to Brembo brakes replaces the previous Alcon system, aligning the Mustang GT3 with Ford’s other racing models. This change aims to enhance durability and performance in endurance racing settings. “In endurance racing, component reliability is critical. Our testing has shown significant gains in braking efficiency, which will be essential in sprint formats,” Allmandinger added.
The updated Mustang GT3 underwent rigorous testing at Daytona, and the new package will be highlighted at the 64th Rolex 24 At Daytona on January 24-25, with customer teams including Gradient Racing.
“Our off-season efforts are focused on refining every component, ensuring the Mustang GT3 is primed for a successful return to the grid,” concluded Allmandinger.
With these developments, Ford Racing aims to position the Mustang GT3 as a formidable competitor in the global GT racing scene.
