Barcelona WEC Free Practice 3: Fuoco Leads the Field
Barcelona, Spain – In the final practice session ahead of qualifying for the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Antonio Fuoco steered the #50 Ferrari 499P to the top of the timing sheets with a striking lap of 1:31.026. This session, exclusive to the Hypercar class, marked a significant improvement over the previous day’s best, set by Harry Tincknell of the Aston Martin THOR Team at 1:31.712.
Behind Fuoco, Mathieu Jaminet in the #19 Genesis GMR-001 clocked a fast 1:31.041, while Jack Aitken in the #38 Hertz Team JOTA Cadillac finished third with a time of 1:31.277, showcasing competitive pace across the field.
As tire management was critical on the challenging Barcelona Circuit, most teams focused on long runs to evaluate grip and lap-time degradation. Notably, the #009 Aston Martin, among the teams experimenting with tire combinations, achieved the fastest time in that category after multiple changes during the session.
Weather conditions were more favorable than the fog that affected earlier LMGT3 practice, although rain remains a potential factor for the race weekend.
Qualifying and Hyperpole for the top class are scheduled to commence at 15:40 local time.
